The famed designer duo kick-started the Bridal Week with a collection
that took us back to the shores of the ancient city of Varanasi. The
show began with Sonam Kapoor in a beautiful Swarovski studded gold
dress.
What followed was a beautiful showcase of craftsmanship and panache
as remixed renditions of all-time favorite hindi songs played setting
the mood for the vibrant collection.
Ranging from contemporary silhouettes that featured Indian artisanal
techniques to ethnic silhouettes, the collection has something for
everybody.
Sonam Kapoor closed the show in a stunning red and golden lehenga, lip-syncing to a rendition of ‘Love Me Like You Do’.
Shantanu and Nikhil
Designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil’s presented their Autumn/winter ’15
Bridal Collection titled ’The Mahal’ which transports us to the grandeur
of the royal days of Rajasthan.
The collection, inspired by the Jodhpur’s famous Mehrangarh Fort,
its grand architecture, culture and royal glamour, is young, dynamic and
elegant. The silhouettes showcased were: gowns, crop tops, lehengas and
leather bodices- They were strong, structured and sophisticated with a
flow and fluidity to them, drawing inspiration from the royal
architecture and the deserts of Rajasthan.

JJ Valaya’s Autumn/ Winter 15 collection- Bolshoi Bazaar is an Indian
bridal collection with a touch of Russia. The designer derived his
inspiration from Russia’s high life- jewels of the czars, the Ikats of
the nomadic Russia, the Onion domes of Moscow and Russian architecture.
The collection included embellished sarees, kurtis, lehengas,
jewelled capes for womenswear and suits, sherwanis and cloaks for
menswear. Shades of Whites, ivory, reds, oranges and blues with hints of
brown, golds and pinks dominated the runway. Faux fur details on sarees
and lehengas with prints inspired from Russian architecture an
including intricate embroidery, digital printing, Appliqué, also
embellished jackets and shoes with faux fur accents.
The accessories played an important role in bringing the whole
‘Russian-Indian’ collection together. Russian faux fur ushanka hats and
elaborate kokoshnik inspired headgear with filigree work with pearl
accents designed by jewellery labels- Valliyan and Nitya Bajaj Arora
which served a strong role on the runway.

Tarun Tahiliani
Tarun Tahiliani presented his collection titled ‘Our Eclectic New
world’ at India Bridal Week. Inspired by ancient India, the designer
added the splendor of an olden era with contemporary fashion, the result
was a beautiful collection that struck a unique balance between India
then and now.
The designer went ‘back to basics’ for his new bridal collection and
kept it low key. A huge step away from what he is known best for, Tarun
Tahiliani’s collection had a sense of lightness and fluidity.
The Silhouettes included lehengas, sarees, kurtas, jackets and
dramatic corsets featuring jail work, french knots and were embellished
with pearls and Swarovski crystals. The jackets were lined with
charmeuse satin printed with Mughal inspired motifs. The colour palette
varied from gold, ivory, red to blues, blush, cobalt and black.
Tarun Tahiliani’s long time friend and muse, Lisa Haydon graced on the ramp as a showstopper.
Gauri and Nainika
The designer duo- Gauri and Nainika presented their bridal collection
in collaboration with artist Travis Bruce Black, inspired by their trip
to Masai Mara.
The collection epitomizes modern femininity with gowns, short
dresses, pencil skirts and peplum tops. The designers weaved a romantic
tale with their collection which featured beautiful 3D petals, applique
work and embroideries.
The vintage Parisian vibe flowed through the collection as models
glided across the runway with flowy dresses in sheer fabrics. The show
was closed with a striking white wedding gown.
Suneet Varma
Suneet Varma’s bridal collection transported us back to a grand and
elegant era with a collection that was inspired by the Ottomon Empire.
The stage was set with a palatial runway complete with a grand
staircase leading to the ramp, and the models glided on the stage, in an
almost cinematic fashion presentation that showcased stunning attention
to detail.
What made us truly fall in love with this collection was the avant
garde jewelry specially designed by Suneet in collaboration with
Swarovski for this collection. Each model was adorned by a special piece
ranging from hathphool, bajuband, kummerband and mang tikas.
The stunning Pernia Qureshi, fresh off her first movie, closed the
Suneet’s show with an intricately designed and detailed lehenga.
